Carnival Triumph: New Orleans, Cozumel, and Progresso
New Orleans
Lucky for us our Carnival cruise departed out of New Orleans, which gave us an extra day to enjoy the local flavor! While in New Orleans we were lucky enough to find an adorable Air B&B centrally located in NOLA! This was my first time using Air B&B so I was a little nervous about walking into someones home. The host Jordan could not have had a more welcoming environment in her home. We loved the cleanliness and beautiful pastel vibes of this quaint little home away from home! Check out this house HERE on Air B&B for your next visit to New Orleans, you won’t be disappointed!
Looking for some New Orleans flavor you can’t find anywhere but the south? Check out Cafe Du Monde for an amazing breakfast to start your day off in NOLA. This vintage style cafe dishes out mouth water beignets and coffee. Don’t forget to try the frozen coffee, it is indescribably delicious!
Cozumel
After a fun-filled day at sea on the Carnival Triumph, we finally made it to our destination First, we made land in Cozumel and our long awaited beach day had arrived. On previous trips to Cozumel, I had been to Mr. Sanchos Beach Resort and immediately knew I had to go back! The second we walked on the property we were welcomed and immediately taken to our private cabana. Then we quickly found our cabanas and began to enjoy the beautiful beach! Mr. Sancho’s has many activities such as snorkeling, jet skis, and water obstacle courses, as well as two pools with swim-up bars in each.
One of the best things about this resort is that it is all inclusive for only $55 and is known as the most complete and popular all-inclusive package! But not only is this resort reasonably priced, but the service also is incredibly friendly, and the food and drinks are outstanding. Just be careful to not have too many drinks. After we headed back to the port we got to shop a little and then finally headed back to the boat to recover!
Progresso
Then we sailed on to Progresso, upon arrival one of my friends got the opportunity to visit the Mayan Ruins. If you are a history nut and love adventure this is the perfect excursion for you! A few years ago I was lucky enough to get to explore them as well, however, unlike Mariah I wasn’t able to explore the caves. Below are photographs from the plantation near by and beautiful photos from inside the cave followed by photos from the ruins.
“The temple I got to stand on top of was used in ancient times for rituals of sacrifice to the Gods. The Mayans would sacrifice their most noble people in order to please their Gods and would have the ceremony of cutting off their heads in front of the whole community.”
Mariah Smith
Sadly enough the trip had to come to an end and to make it even worse we were about to face an insanely long car ride home. Finally, after another grueling 14-hour drive back to Kansas, we were home safe and sound in our beds.
